A National Conference on “Food Regulation in India- Current Status and Way Forward” was conducted by the Pondicherry University, Pondicherry on 27th-28th March 2017. Mrs. R. Shalini, Assistant Professor, Department of Fish Quality Assurance and Management and four M. F. Sc. Students (Two from Department of Fish Quality Assurance and Management and two from Department of Fish Processing Technology) participated. The Director of DefenceFood Research Laboratory, DRDO, Mysore,Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. Dr. P.I. Suvrathan, IAS, Former Chairperson of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Govt. of India delivered the key note address in the National Conference. About 150 participants from several States of India representing various Institutes including National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad; Anna University, Chennai, Dairy Science College, Bengalore attended. Mrs. R. Shalini won the second prize in the oral presentation for her paper on “Cadmium in Fish and Shellfish”; Mr. U. Arisekar, II M.F.Sc. studentin Fish Quality Assurance and Management bagged the second prize for his poster paper on “Assessment of OCPs and OPPs residues in the water and fish samples from Thamirabharani river basin”; and Ms. LidyaWilwet,II M.F.Sc. student in Fish Quality Assurance and Management won the third prize in poster paper on “Authentication of commercially important penaeidshrimp species by PCR-RFLP technique”.
